The essential intellectual output is the compilation of an eBook, which is sensual to the topic of LKWS. This eBook is an essential source that provides the most updated information on future wood resources near a changing climate.
The eBook depicts and covers the following issues:
- Forest management under a changing climate;
- Structural (microscopic, macroscopic) aspects of wood properties of LKWS and comparisons to current (diminishing) wood species;
- Technological properties of LKWS, including machining, glueing, making of constructive wood products (OSB panels, plywood, cross-laminated timber, and others), furniture applications (including decorative potentials);
- New product developments and product design;
- Marketing aspects;
- Changes and opportunities in digitalization; and
- Needed economic changes.
The book further summarises the knowledge acquired during the field weeks, summer schools, various workshops, and webinars. The eBook is a “living document” throughout WooD+, but sections of it have already been made available during the project. The eBook is finally the most comprehensive source of information on future wood resource supply, with ideas on needed actions to support the needed change.
